Unending traffic congestion at intersections on Accra-Kumasi Highway

The reconstruction of the dual carriage way from Ejisu to Kumasi about ten years ago may have addressed impeded movement due to pot-holes, trenches and gullies.

The challenge is however far from over largely due to structural design.Construction of rounds-about which squeezes s into single lane at intersections appears to have worsened the traffic situation, especially, during rush hours.

Ordinarily motorist should take between five and ten minutes to cover the Oduom-Tech Police Station stretch. However, the three rounds-about keep drivers and commuters in traffic for up to forty minutes on the average. The economic cost in terms of loss of man hours cannot be quantified. Heavy duty trucks, perhaps, are the biggest victims of inconvenience.

A lot of them have overturned trying to negotiate the narrow roundabout resulting in accident. Other motorist where saying that these heavy duty trucks are supposed to use the rough surface instead squeezing into the smooth surface. The National Road Safety Commission says it is aware of the challenge which it has brought to the attention of the Ghana Highway Authority.
